In this animated meditation, abstract sunflowers bloom and drop petals.

The animation can be paused.

I started this piece shortly after the invasion of Ukraine. I was inspired by the woman who told the Russian soldier to 'put sunflower seeds in your pockets'.

At the same time, my mom's health was  swiftly declining. We were spending hours driving to visit her, and trying to comfort her. Each night, once we got home, I would work a little more on these flowers.

Mom learned a saying from her dad: "give me my flowers now".

I felt that mom was about to pass, so I shared this project in it's first iteration. I was afraid I'd just mothball it, if I didn't.

She passed, early in the morning after our last visit, on March 9th.

I keep working on the flowers, through my grief and complicated emotions, and for anyone else who needs to meditate on something beautiful. And yes, my goal, as an artist, is to make this beautiful and calming.
